Tribert-Rujugiro-AyabatwaAyabatwa founded PTG in 1978 when he began manufacturing in Burundi. In PTG’s forty-two year history, the company evolved to become one of Africa’s largest indigenous manufacturers of consumer goods. Presently, PTG makes consumer goods in each region of Sub-Saharan Africa with manufacturing facilities and assets in Angola, Burundi, DR Congo, Nigeria, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. The company is a key stakeholder in wealth-creation for host countries through exports and associated foreign exchange earnings, and through job-creation. Further, PTG stimulates secondary businesses such as transporters and other companies that supply its manufacturing processes. In his capacity as Chairman, Ayabatwa is responsible for the success of PTG and for its overall strategic direction and governance. He is supported by country teams in charge of day-to-day management of individual companies that make up PTG. Currently, PTG country teams operate and serve across Sub-Saharan Africa region. We has a footprint in the East African Community (EAC), Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) and in the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). A strong believer in corporate social responsibility and supporting communities to develop themselves, Ayabatwa is one of Africa’s most notable philanthropists. Working with families, communities and governmental stakeholders in countries and regions in which PTG does business in part of the company’s corporate culture. As Ayabatwa explains, “forty years ago, we took the first step of building a uniquely indigenous African company not driven only by the profit motive but in seeking to work with families and communities so that they can improve their own livelihoods. Public authorities also greatly facilitated our work for which we are most thankful.”
